[월드투데이 안신희 기자] 아이티에서 갱단 폭력과 경제난으로 인해 혼란이 가중되고 있다.

In Haiti, gang violence and economic hardship are adding to the chaos.

아이티 시민들이 경제난에 반발하여 수도인 포르토프랭스 거리에서 타이어를 태우는 시위를 하고 있다. 치솟는 가격, 식량 및 연료 부족, 만연한 갱단 폭력으로 인해 포르토프랭스의 치안 상황은 잔인하게 악화되고 있다. 이로 인해 사람들이 의존하는 인도적 지원까지 위협받는 상황이다.

폭력 사태로 중단됐던 납품을 재개했음에도 연료가 부족한 상황에 항의하기 위해서, 시위대가 도로를 봉쇄했다. 사진에서는 어느 시민이 도로 차단대에서 타이어를 들고 있다.

지난 8일에 발표된 7월 공식 조사 보고서에서, 지난해 9월 미국에 입국하려는 아이티 이민자들에게 말을 탄 미 국경순찰대가 '비전문적이고 모욕적인' 행동을 했지만 고삐로 때리지는 않았다고 밝혔다.

US Border Patrol agents on horseback acted in an "unprofessional" and "insulting" manner toward Haitian migrants attempting to enter the US in September 2021, but they did not hit them with their reins, according to an official investigative report made public on July 8, 2022.
