[월드투데이 김나혜 기자] 지난 18일(현지 시간) 칠레 산티아고에서 '2019년 시위'의 2주년을 맞아 재차 시위가 열렸다.
Demonstrations were held again in Santiago, Chile, to mark the second anniversary of the 2019 demonstration, on October 18.

지난 2019년 시위는 '사회적 불평등'에 대한 문제의식으로 전개됐다. 당시 정부가 지하철 요금을 30페소 인상한 것이 계기가 되어 사람들이 대규모로 시위를 벌인 것이다.
The demonstrations in 2019 unfolded with an awareness of the problem of social inequality. At that time, the government's 30 pesos increase in subway fares triggered people to protest on a large scale.

이는 한화로 50원 정도밖에 되지 않는 금액이지만, 칠레 사회에 만연한 불평등에 대한 분노에 불을 붙였다. 시위대는 불평등의 개선 및 대통령 하야 등의 조치를 주장했다.
This is only about 50 won in Korean currency, but it ignited anger over inequality prevalent in Chilean society. Protesters insisted on improving inequality and taking measures such as resigning the president.

한편 당시 칠레 정부의 시위 진압 과정에서 여러 논란이 발생하기도 했다. 정부가 시위대를 무력으로 진압하며 많은 사상자가 발생했고 군경이 고문, 강간 등 인권침해를 저질렀다는 보고도 다수 접수됐다.
Meanwhile, several controversies arose during the Chilean government's suppression of protests at the time. The government suppressed protesters with force, causing many casualties, and a number of reports have also been received that the military and police violated human rights, including torture and rape.

지난 18일에도 이 시위의 2주년을 기념해 산티아고 도심에서 다시 시위가 진행된 것이다. 이번에도 시위 참가자들은 불평등에 항의하며 '이탈리아 광장'에 대규모로 집결했다.
Demonstrations were held again in Santiago to commemorate the second anniversary of the protests. Again this time, participants gathered on a large scale at the 'Plaza Italia' protesting against inequality.

참가자들은 곳곳에서 경찰과 대립했다. 붉은 악마 복장을 입고 참가한 사람들도 있었으며, 지난 2019년 시위 당시 눈에 부상을 입었던 사람들을 기억하자는 의미의 안대 시위도 벌어졌다.
Participants confronted police everywhere. Some people participated in red devil costumes, and an eye patch demonstration took place to remember those who were injured in their eyes during the 2019 protests.

시위대의 일부는 불을 사용해 경찰이 세운 바리케이드를 태우기도 했다. 한편 시위의 혼란을 틈타 상점을 도둑질하는 사람들도 있었다.
Some of the protesters used fire to burn barricades built by police. Meanwhile, there were people stealing stores in confusion of the protests.

칠레 정부는 지난 2019년 시위 이후 개헌을 위해 지난 7월 제헌의회를 구성하기도 했다. 지속적인 노력 및 정부와 국민 간 소통으로, 칠레에서 불평등이 해결되어야 할 것이다.
The Chilean government formed the Constitutional Assembly in July to amend the constitution after the 2019 protests. Inequality should be resolved in Chile through continuous efforts and communication between the government and the people.
