[월드투데이 김나혜 기자] 남아시아 세계은행 부회장이 스리랑카 방문에서 스리랑카를 돕겠다는 약속을 재확인했다.
World Bank Vice President for South Asia reaffirmed his promise to help Sri Lanka during his visit to Sri Lanka.

스리랑카 대통령, 재무부 장관 등 고위 관료들과의 회의에서, 세계은행 부회장은 스리랑카가 코로나19 사태로부터 극복하기 위한 우선순위와 세계은행 지원의 핵심 영역을 논의했다. 부회장은 또한 다른 정당의 대표들, 프로젝트 고위 관계자들, 민간 부문, 발전 파트너와도 만났다.
During meetings with the President of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and other senior officials, the vice president discussed the government's priorities for Sri Lanka’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and key areas of World Bank support. He also met with representatives of different political parties, senior project officials, the private sector, and development partners. 

장관급 정책 대화에서, 스리랑카는 '세계은행 인적 자원 프로젝트'에 참여했다고 밝혔다. 회의는 폭넓은 경제성장을 위한 인적 자본 가속화의 중요성을 강조했다. 세계은행은 스리랑카 정부 및 다른 발전 파트너들과 함께 건강, 교육 및 사회보장 필요를 다루기 위해 노력할 것이다.
At a ministerial policy dialogue, Sri Lanka announced that it has joined the World Bank Human Capital Project. The meeting underscored the importance of accelerating human capital for inclusive economic growth. The World Bank, together with the Government of Sri Lanka and other development partners will work on addressing the health, education and social protection needs of Sri Lankans.

코로나19 사태는 이미 힘든 스리랑카의 재정적, 거시경제적 상황을 심화시킨 바 있다. 정부는 이러한 문제들에 대처하기 위해 노력했지만, 그러한 노력들은 전 세계 식량 가격 및 유가에 피해를 입는 가난한 사람들에게 불공평한 영향을 가져왔다.
The pandemic has amplified an already challenging fiscal and macroeconomic situation. The government is working to address these challenges which have a disproportionate impact on those most at risk—the poor who bear the brunt of rising global food and oil prices.

스리랑카 대통령은 에너지 전환을 통해 전 세계적 압력에 대처하고 시장 수요에 대응하기 위해 기술과 투자 환경을 개선하겠다는 계획을 밝혔다. 이것들은 공공 투자를 보완하고 재정과 대외 지위에 대한 압력을 줄이기 위해 민간 투자를 확대하기 위한 정부의 정책 우선순위들 중 하나이다.
President Rajapaksa discussed his vision to address these global pressures through his plans for an energy transition and to upgrade skills and the investment climate to respond to market demands. These are among the government’s policy priorities for scaled-up private investment to complement public investment and reduce pressures on the fiscal and external position.

스리랑카 방문 기간 동안 세계은행 부회장은 유네스코 세계문화유산인 갈레 포트를 방문하기도 했다. 세계은행은 또한 유산 가치를 증진하는 동시에 안전과 홍수 보호를 보장하는 '전략 도시 개발 사업'을 통해 갈레 포트의 보존을 돕고 있다.
The vice president also visited the UNESCO cultural heritage site, Galle Forte. The World Bank is helping to preserve the site through the Strategic Cities Development Project, which includes restoring and enhancing the site’s heritage value while also ensuring safety and flood protection.
